Meet The Faculty
Kathryn Dowthwaite-Blay MA
Director and Founder of Spa Education Academy
20 years in Education, Spa and Wellness
Starting her career in therapy and finding her way into management roles in commercial Spas and Higher and Further Educational Colleges and Universities.
Kathryn has worked in London, Australia, Bermuda, Turkey, Dominican Republic and Steiner Cruise Ships, gaining a wide variety of experience to share with her students.
Kathryn holds a Masters in International Spa Management, is a qualified lecturer, Assessor, Internal Verifier and works as External Examiner.
Kathryn has managed University Spa Degree programmes, Further Education Curriculum departments, has been an online Spa Management Degree tutor and advises on the creation of Spa HE Degree programmes.
Kathryn has had her work published in magazines such as Spa Executive, European Spa, SkinInc, Professional Beauty, spoken at Spa Conferences such as Spa Life in the UK and World Spa and Wellness in Dubai.
Kathryn is passionate about sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for Spa and making a difference in our students careers.

A spiritual, well-rounded wellness professional with twenty years’ experience within some of the world’s most prestigious wellness hotels and resorts, combining the cultural environments of the USA, Bermuda, UK and Maldives and work ethic of Asia, Indonesia, Europe, Thailand and Australasia. Yvonne is the General Manager of the UK Spa Association, as a result is at the forefront of the key issues and news with in the spa industry.
Recently qualified in Yoga, Yvonne has an eye and a passion for enabling people to bring wellness into their everyday lives. Yvonne's previous role as Senior Spa Lecturer at the University of Derby, allowed her to share her passion and educate and prepare undergraduate students in International Wellness and Spa Management, incorporating the dimensions of wellness.

'I truly believe wellness can help everyone on a variety of levels and it is important spa managers of the future are prepared for this'.
Visiting Spa Management Lecturer
Victoria Rosamond
MSC, BSc, PGCertHE, FHEA
Victoria is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management for the University of Derby Online. She has a BSc and Master's Degree in International Spa Management as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Finance. In addition to her teaching qualifications, she also holds an Advanced HE Fellowship. Victoria has over 10 years of experience specialising in the spa industry.
Victoria worked for Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group under Andrew Gibson in their Hong Kong office, focusing on data analysis and marketing for the spa group.
​
Victoria then worked as Regional Business Manager for UK spa brand Elemis, working her way up to the position of Retail Operations Executive, responsible for developing training, recruitment and retail both nationally and internationally. Victoria specialises in teaching spa finance for Spa Education Academy.

Ellen Jennings MA
Lead Level 5 Spa Lecturer

Ellen comes on board with over 20 years experience within Spa, Wellness and Education. With a Masters in International Spa Management, worked in various roles all over the world including 5* Spa’s in Dubai, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Hong Kong and New Zealand as Therapist, Consultant, Spa Manager, Assistant Spa Director, Group Spa Manager, Cluster Manager, Salon and Barber Manager.

Having completed many pre-openings and often hired to turn around non performing Spa’s, more recently specialising in education, helping fellow professionals achieve further knowledge in the Spa realm.

Carlie McRae
Lead Quality Assurer (IQA)

Carlie ensures high standards of quality at Spa Education Academy. She leads the IQA processes, liaises with awarding bodies and external examiners to ensure all assessment, marking and teaching meets the criteria and IQA processes.
The rigorous processes are in place to protect our students and ensures that all our candidates and students leave with having covered the specific criteria written to a high academic level.
We have a team behind 'the screen' that work to keep Spa Education Academy running and being the best spa management provider in the world; accounts, IT, admissions, marketing, our academic markers that will give you feedback and comments on your assignments to assist you in improving your content and academic writing skills, our markers are all qualified to Masters level in Spa Management, have spa management lecturing and industry experience to help you develop throughout your studies with us!

Ayo has a Masters in International Spa Management, Degree in Health Science and Complementary Therapies and Beauty and Teaching Qualifications

20+ years of experience within the beauty, retail and spa industry. She has trained spa professionals at 5* hotels in Asia and Europe at Four Seasons, Capella and Le Bristol.
